You Are Not Alone
You may have bought many cars in the past. Or perhaps this will be the first. The game has changed. Even experts struggle to keep up with the technologies, serious mechanical issues, recalls and hidden surveillance systems tracking you and reporting to your insurer.
We have all seen car prices escalating to ridiculously heights every year. If you have not been car shopping lately you are in for a shock.
We can help you make the best decision for your next car. Get to a decision fast without having to study long detailed reports. We already know the best vehicles to buy.
Here are your choices:
1. Buy New
Many decide to buy new to get a warranty. That used to be a good option. Unfortunately with jacked up prices, planned obsolescence and design to meet EPA regulations instead of reliability this option is now longer a good one. What good is a warranty if your shiny new car spends more time at a dealership than on the road? You find your self in a long-line waiting for recall fixes. Or waiting as overworked techs try to diagnose intermittent software bugs. Or wait for backordered parts. All while you keep making car and insurance payments.
You can ruin your financial future buying overpriced vehicles signing loans for $1,000 or more for 84 months. Loans that outlast what you bought in a desperate attempt to get a payment you can make. Especially when you factor in dealer markup and useless add-ons, taxes, registration fees, much higher parts and labor costs, insurance and depreciation. Your new high-tech car will soon be obsolete like a smart phone. You may be able to afford a new phone every couple of years but not another car when you’re so far upside down you may end up in Australia.
2. Buy Used
Dealers lie. Private sellers lie. You are on your own to figure it out.
People are justifiably scared away of buying a used car. There have been over 60 makes with over 1,000 models, each with multiple generations, trim packages and entire platforms sold in the USA since 2000 totaling to over 100,000 total combinations. Which is the best deal? If you guess you may as well invest in lottery tickets.
Your success buying used depends on knowing what makes and models were known to be reliable and which were disasters from day one.
We know and we will be happy to tell you. It’s also critical to get a pre-purchase inspection to find out what’s up with a specific car you find. We can refer you to a local shop.
3. Keep Your Car
Maybe your old car is not so bad after all. It may be boring and out of date but If you buy new in a few months it too will be old. If your old car is basically sound, not rusted out or severely worn out, runs well and has been maintained properly you are a true winner in this game.
Resist the siren call tempting you with glitter and gizmos. Why take out more debt to drive a product that will break down anyway and spy on you. If you don’t have a car and can’t walk or bike because our cities are not designed for that, then you must choose. Wisely.
Get an expert mechanic to take a look and advise you on what it will take to make it reliable. Make the decision based on economics not ego. Nobody cares what you drive. Your friends and neighbors will be happy to show off their latest toy but they won’t be happy to tell you what it costs them every month to bolster their weak egos.
